President’s Message

This being my first newsletter as the new president, I am a bit apprehensive.  Cedar Hills Gun Club has had a terrific president for several years.  From what I have heard, he has done many wonderful things to promote CHGC.   It will take some pretty big shoes to fill what he has done.  Being a member only a few years, I have come to appreciate the few people I have been involved with and the work they do.

After the concern, or shock of being elected as president and a few restless nights, I began to realize the potential we have as a gun club.  We are a diamond in the rough with so much potential.  It’s hard not to dream about what we can do to improve the upper range, lower range, .22 range, pistol range, trap and sporting clays range.  It will definitely be exciting to see the support of the club members and community to help make this range something we enjoy for years to come.

I was truly amazed at the help that turned out to our last club meeting.  All chipped in to help stuff, label and place stamps on envelopes to be sent out to current members for their renewal.  Those who have paid their dues will be receiving their new membership cards with the new gate combination which will be changed as of January 1, 2016.

Please check out the new CHGC website.  It is in the making and our hope is that it will be a great tool for communication of events and information.

Please join us at our next meeting, Dec. 2nd  at 7 PM at A to Z Guns, in Blackfoot,  to help us dream and expand our vision of the great possibilities available for us all.  It will be from our members and community support that will decide where we will end.

 Thank You

 Jed Taylor

Minutes of November 4, 2015

Board members present: Gordon Wankier, Rod Cross, Mike Curnutt, Mike Layng, Larry Taylor, Bill Kelleher, Stuart McKim, Terry Hansen, Ron Weaver, Gene Davids, and Chris Jenneiahn.

The meeting was opened at 7PM by president Gordon Wankier.  New members were welcomed and informed that a range orientation would follow the meeting.

Jackets for 2 club members who were extra helpful during shotgun this year will be ordered.  Bill and Dennis, THANK YOU for all your work!!!

Old Business:

  1. Web site- Mike Tominaga is in charge of this.  We need to add $20 per month for the service.

 New Business:

  1. Ron Weaver will turn the water off after the Mountain West shoot on Nov. 14th if the weather holds.
  2. Rod reported that the big dumpster has been emptied and the porta potties serviced.
  3. Chris reported on the meeting between CHGC, represented by Gordon and Chris and Doug Sayer, from Premier Technology. The Premier offer of helping us upgrade our range over the next few years was greatly accepted.  Several items listed for improvement were on the wish list compiled over the last few months.
  4. A member asked about the use of the pistol range with other than a pistol.  This will be on the December agenda for discussion.
  5. Craig Gates, the NEA representative for our area, is asking for help with the NRA banquet to be held on May 7th at the Red Lion in Pocatello.

Gordon Wankier announced that this will be the last meeting he will attend as he is leaving for Uruguay on Dec. 14th on a 2 year mission.  Mike Layng also announced that he is leaving for family reasons so this will also be his last meeting.  As this news was not new to board members, replacing both of them, the president and vice president has been seriously looked at by several board members.  We were very fortunate to have Jed Taylor, local long member of the gun club accept the position of president and Terry Hansen announced that he would be willing to accept the position of vice president.  Good luck and best wishes to our members who are leaving for new adventures, and a huge thank you and welcome to our new president and vice president.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

The final portion of the evening was devoted to the annual putting together of the club renewals.
